HOW EVERYTHING STARTED

I have been taking photographs since I was a child.
In the early days, it was all black-and-white. Growing up in Eastern Germany, colour photographs were a rarity. My father used to say, “Use aperture 11, and always make sure there is something in the foreground. It will make your pictures more interesting.” I have followed that advice ever since, yet over time I discovered my own ways of expressing what I see.
Later, I learned many more techniques from my friend Wolfgang Schumacher. Much of my early work took place in the darkroom, where I spent countless hours developing film and watching images slowly appear under the red light. Many years later, I discovered digital photography and fine-art printing. Holding a printed photo in my hand brings me back to my roots.
My camera has remained an integral part of my life. Wherever I go, across landscapes or through cities, it is always with me, capturing how I see the world.
